In addition to the Church of the Redeemer and the archaeological park below it, the contributions by renowned Jerusalem researchers deal with other excavations on the grounds of the Muristan (excavations on the grounds of the Martin Luther School, St. John’s Church, Alexander Nevsky Church, Church of the Holy Sepulchre) as well as with the history of this part of the city from the Middle Ages to the visit of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Woven Heritage

“Woven Heritage. The Carpet Collection of the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology, Amman” by Catreena Hamarneh, edited by Brita Jansen: The Amman Institute has a collection of 24 local and regional carpets and kilims, which were presented in an Arabic-English publication in 2023. In addition to a detailed presentation of the pieces from the Institute’s collection, various aspects such as the production of carpets, their use and appreciation or the meaning of patterns and symbols are presented, thus covering an important aspect of Jordan’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
